| | | Re: Giant Hogweed Help Needed!! Here's one for you from today. Map ref IC478238 Culmore landfill site near Derry Northern Ireland. There were numerous plants growing. Only about 6-7 feet tall.
This pic is from June 2007 by the River Roe. Much bigger - 12 feet plus. IC672298 near Benevenagh Co. Derry.
I can get seeds for you if you remind me. Are you the same fellow mentioned in BSBI news?

Are you the same fellow mentioned in BSBI news? | Yes the message in the BSBI news was from my project supervisor at RHS Wisley, I am their fellowship student and as such I am undertaking the research for them. It would be brilliant if you could collect some seeds. I will remind you in a couple of weeks (not sure how long it will be before the fruits are ripe). Thank-you for the photos they are very useful for me to get an idea of which species they may be. The one from 2007 is definitely a Giant Hogweed and superficially resembles Heracleum mantegazzianum, the one from today is (as you say) much smaller which makes me think it may not be a Giant one but it could possibly be a hybrid (of interest to the project) or indeed be a smaller Giant Hogweed. The leaves which I can see do appear Giant Hogweed-like.
Best Wishes
Amy

I have just remembered where else I saw some GH: Near Edinburgh
Grid ref: NT 17 71
Growing in a railway cutting. Maybe someone here from Edinburgh could have a look when they're passing.

Sorry it's been a while, but didn't return to the site until now. I took a few seeds and can mail them with a location if you PM an address.
