Now I can see the whole plants ,the 3rd. pink flower on the original pics. (the one you thought was Sheepsbit,) is Meadow Thistle - Cirsium dissectum
So much easier when you can see the plants 'in situ'!
Sheepsbit is bluer, smaller, and only grows to about 4 -6". 10-15cm approx.
Thanks for pointing my error out, a much closer look was called for.

Here is a pic. of Sheepsbit growing in a natural setting. It is the small blue flower growing with Wild Thyme, Bird'sfoot Trefoil, Restharrow etc. It prefers dry sandy/chalky ground.
It clearly shows how small it is compared to your Meadow Thistle.
Hope that helps.

I do usually try and take a picture that does show the foliage, particularly a leaf. I'm not sure there is only one type of napweed, one of them was much taller than the other and very much radiating out from a single base. On A-Z the colour is definitely right for common napweed, but they have fallen between the two stools of flower head and whole plant. I find them all interesting to look at, but dislike having to learn the language of botany to describe them. I'll get there one day.
Thanks for your patience in trying to enlighten me! It is appreciated.
I have some orchids from a while back I shall post eventually, I notice a lot of posters seem to want orchids identified. |

The only other Knapweed you are likely to encounter is Greater Knapweed, an altogether larger plant, up to 1.2m. flowers always rayed, 30-50 mm across. Leaves much divided.

Yarrow isn't an umbellifer, but a composite. The flower superficially resembles an umbel, but the flower structure is a corymb. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
