| | | Hello everyone. I'm a new member and I am interested in all plants. My horticultural interests span forty years but in recent times I've developed an interest in wild plants particularly after joining the Alpine Garden Society and realising that there's more to the subject than just the horticultural aspect. My knowledge of british flora is more than basic but not extensive so my first question is, with the number of books available, particularly for identifying purposes, which one would suit my purpose? |

| | | Re: Hello everyone. Hi Saxifraga and welcome to WAB. I use the Excursion Flora of the British Isles (Clapham, Tutin & Warburg) a bit complicated at first but once you get used to the keys it’s the book of choice for me. Never felt comfortable with Francis Rose, although it was the recommended identification book on both my City & Guilds course with SWT and my HND course at college so its well worth a look.

| | | Re: Hello everyone. I really like Wild Flowers of Britain + Ireland by Blamey, Fitter + Fitter.
Prefered the original version of Rose to the updated version. |

| | | Re: Hello everyone. Yes I use that edition of the Francis Rose as well Aeshna,I do though use the Cassell's Wildflowers from time to time,it has a few more of the alien flora of the B.I in it,but it is big.But I do wish for a book that has yet more alien flora in it though.Maybe Saxifraga you are more familar with these, coming from a more horticultural background.Welcome to WAB Saxifraga Jason |
