| | | Re: Searching for inspiration!! I wanted to add some colour to a hedge bottom and decided to try a Cornfield Annual selection. I just scuffed up the ground in the hawthorn hedge bottom and sprinkled some seed on to it and then trod it in with my size 10's
I was a little late in planting the seed and so some of it hasn't come through. It may come through next year ...
I was quite pleased with the results ... Poppies, Cornflower, Wild Chamomile and Cornflowers
Thinking of adding some other varieties in the spring, bulbs. Wild Daffodil, Bluebell, snowdrops

You may find it helpful to also take your question to the dedicated gardening forum - Outdoor Activities - Wildlife Gardening at wildaboutbritain.co.uk

Welcome to WAB, both of you!
Apache, those wild flowers are beautiful! You have reaped a spectacular crop there, I have never had much success with such things...

Like Dean, I myself am new to the forum...and again like Dean am looking for inspiration or guidance (in fact I haven't got a clue what I'm doing or looking for!!) for my garden!!
I'm also wanting to keep my garden native and have always longed for a 'Country Garden'!!!
Is there anything I could be planting out now in preparation for next year? I particularly want things that are easy to care for, well to be truthful, things that will practically care for themselves and will come back year after year!!! It's not that I'm lazy, I just work stupid hours and tend to kill anything I lay my hands on...unintentionally of course!!
Cheers guys x |

Cheers guys x | Certainly now is a good time to start planning. As to what you might plant, that is down to soil type, garden aspect, location etc. You will probably get the attention of WABs more ardent gardeners if you post on the Gardening Forum - which you'll find further down the main forum page. Wildlife Gardening and 'native gardening' can be subtly different, and native gardening does not necessarily equal easy gardening so you might find it helpful to see what discussions follow from asking some pertinent questions of the gardeners.

Cheers guys x | Hi chickchick78,firstly a big thank you to all that have welcomed us to this forum. It's nice and refreshing to know that there are people like me and ChickChick78 that are still thinking of starting from scratch. It takes a lot of effort to create a wildlife haven in a garden but is one of the most rewarding things i've done.Keep up the good work ChickChick78 and i'll continue this end!! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
