Took this photo amongst a large group of knapweed.The out petals are white.Is this due to it being a new or old flower head or is it an oddity  . Cheers for any ideas.  |

Sorry, I can't help but I'd like to know the answer too! I saw one like this myself a couple of yeras ago. I assumed it was just old and faded, but I'd like to hear what the experts say. |

Looks like a partially white flower of Common Knapweed (Centaurea nigra) |

a key character in this group is the shape and nature of the phyllaries - the scale-like constituents beneath the flower-head - everything else becomes a bit close to guesswork
