| | southern marsh orchid? Not having looked at orchids very closely before, I wonder if this is the Southern Marsh Orchid Dactylorhiza praetermissa ?
Sorry the pics are not brilliant - taken in fading light yesterday evening on Brading Marshes, IoW.
The leaves were not spotted, the orchids were around 30-35cm tall.
Thanks, Rob |

Trifid Bur Marigold is an interesting one - I'll look for it.
The patch where I was yesterday evening is dominated by Hemlock Water Dropwort at present, and that has hundreds of little bluey-orangey-bristly caterpiilars of Depressaria daucella moth feeding / pupating.
A patch of Celery-leaved Buttercup caught my eye, but I'm only just getting to grips with the place and a bit of a learner all round. Interesting territory. |

I've only been once but we often go to the Island to visit my grandparents and it's only been a nature reserve for a few years...
