Wood Forget-me-not?

Common Vetch?

Green-winged Orchid?

Pale Early Purple Orchid?

Hi jennie , you live in a lovely area of dorset . I am still learning myself so dont take this as a definate. I agree with you on 2 3 and 4 but ill take your word for number 1 as ive not got a clue

1. looks like the flowers Brunnera macrophylla (Great Forget-me-not) unless any of the leaves you can see in the picture are attached to it - if so I have no idea

Sorry I didn't see that

The flowers don't have the yellow ring in the flower like M. sylvatica and the flowers are unlike Green Alkanette. I would agree with B. macrophylla

The last three photos were taken in a small SSSI site of just three fields, managed as ancient hay meadows. Unfortunately people excercise their dogs there, they are supposed to be kept under control, but are allowed by many irresponsible owners to run wild, breaking off many of the orchid blooms and leaving their pooh everywhere. Already patches of "improved" grassland can be seen.

The lance-shaped leaves are attached to the main stem - not sure what the basal leaves are like as it is growing in a hedgerow. Will go back soon and investigate further!

Yes I see what you mean with the missing yellow! I'm sure Tiggrx will be spot on with his id of plant 1.

Right, here are the leaves for no.1. The main one in the picture is about 5 inches across, and felt bristly to touch. The whole plant is about 2 feet high. I could not see any yellow in the flowers.

Does this make things any clearer?
