| | | Too early for early spider orchid? Hello!
I was intending to head out in search of early spider orchids this weekend... but there is little point in doing this if they are not yet open, has anyone seen any yet this year? |

They have been seen out in Dorset over the last few days, however I expect that this early in the month they will still be very small, if you want to see them at their best then you should probably visit a bit later in the month. Here's a shot of one from the 8th April 2007, at this time of year they're not quite as impressive as they will be in a couple of weeks time!

Guy | I went to see a couple of early purple orchids the other day and there was only the rosettes coming up - no sign of any flowers yet and they flower near the same time |

| | | Re: Too early for early spider orchid? Saw a rather early one in flower in Dorset on 10th April last year but most were still to come. We only went that early as we had to be in the area on that day anyway!

Scarlet Anemone, A. x fulgens, and Yellow Anemone, A. ranunculoides, are both easy to find in St Giles' Churchyard there, and an added advantage should be that even on a bank holiday, you'll probably be alone
The Cotswold Water Park's also pretty much on your doorstep (though it'll be busy over the weekend, I'm sure of it.) |
