| | | unidentified wildflowers in south wales hello
Just returned from the gower peninsular, S. Wales, and came across many new plants i do not recognise and not sure if they are wild or of garden variety. Please help me identify them...
a. Seen these growing on sand dunes among the restharrows.
b. Another sand dune one.
c. Seen these both on edge of beach and in a garden.
d. Saw this one on marshy land near river mouth.
e. Saw alot of these in damp wooded areas.
d. Saw this on rocky beach.
e. Seen alot of these in open meadow areas. The leaves look like Silverweed but they are big up to about 5 - 6 inches long.
f. These could be garden variety but not sure. Found near roadside in dense woodland.
g. Found a cluster of these on sandy-grassy marshland near beach.
h. This last one was found in roding valley, essex. Possibly garden variety.
Any help appreciated. Sorry there's quite a lot of them. |

| | | Re: unidentified wildflowers in south wales Hi - there are quite a few of them!
a. A Polypody, possibly Southern Polypody, Polypodium cambricum
b. Sea Stock, Matthiola sinuata
c. Sweet Alison, Lobularia maritima - garden escape
d. Weld, Reseda luteola - but I seem to confuse it from photos with Wild Mignonette, Reseda lutea so thats another possibility!
e. Harts-tongue Fern, Phyllitis scopendrium
d 2. Sea Beet, Beta vulgaris ssp. maritima
e 2. You're right, it is Silverweed
f. Marsh-mallow, Althaea officionalis
g. Thrift, Armeria maritima

| | | Re: unidentified wildflowers in south wales I'm pretty sure that h is a double-flowered cultivar of Sneezewort, Achillea ptarmica. You see it around from time to time, but for now I've totally forgotten the name (Pearl something, IIRC) |

The name you are trying to think of is "The Pearl" - but there are other double forms. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
