| | | August wildflowers Hello,
I am getting married at the beginning of August in Suffolk and I would love to have wild flowers in my bouquet and on tables. Can anyone tell me what might be in flower at that time of year?
Thank you!

Juliet | Oh that's such a lovely idea....
I did that for my wedding though it was in May and we used lots of cowparsely which smelled gorgeous looked lovely and was free..... I actaully managed to marry a toad but the wedding was fab!!
I shall go away and put my thinking cap on.... my first thought is wild carrot I think otherwise known as Queen Anne's Lace - August is a little difficult because what is still prolifically in flower can be very influenced by the weather during June and July.
Do you have any kind of colour theme? |

Cut wild flowers perish all to quickly and should not be taken from there natural habitat. The best thing i can think of for wanting wildflowers on your special day is to have bowls and grow the flowers from seed ready to flower in August. Don't go for biennials such as foxgloves and vipers bugloss as they won't come in to flower until the following year! Here is a list of perennials which will then need to be transplated after the wedding to carry on growing the subsequent years. Agrimony, Wild Basil, Calamint, Common Centuary, Meadow Clary, Red & Strawberry Clover, Red Dead Nettle, Feverfew, Field Forget me Not, Goats beard, Harebell, Autumn Hawkbit, Meadow Pea, Small Scabious, Thrift Greater Knapweed and Kidney Vetch.
But after saying all that i'd go with sowing Cornfield annuals.....Corn Popppies, Corn Marigolds, Corn Cockle, Cornflowers and Corn Chamomile which grow to similar height and are found growing together in the the cornfields and flower through out August!!!
Well I hope that is of some help to you and Best wishes for your special day

| | | Re: August wildflowers yes its worth pointing out that you'd need the landowner's permission before picking wildflowers (which I had as I got married in the village I grew up in - actually the village's WI even did the arrangments for me!) unless you sow you're own and be careful only to pick what's common don't wipe anything out! |

I had cow parsely at my wedding, but that would be well over by August so I suggested wild carrot - otherwise known as queen Annes Lace (which is a much more romantic name) |

| | | Re: August wildflowers think they've all been mentioned but i'd really make the use of all the varied colours available to you and not just think of sticking to the traditional white Have a really pretty colourful wedding using all the natural colours of the season Have a really good one..congratulations! |
