Just wondering if anyone can pin down the enclosed flower in partial bloom opposite the front door of the Central Criminal Court in London?
I think its self heal.......guilty or not guilty?  |

Looks like an ornamental Persicaria of some sort, possibly.

I think this is Common Bistort, Persicaria bistorta.
Definitely not Self Heal......... |

Could be Polygonum affine, a knotweed used for ground cover. Was it in a flower bed?

Hi,
Yes it was in a very formal, granite planter. It had obviously taken quite a hold of the site to! |

It`s probably Polyganum affine. That`s the most likely one to be planted in that sort of situation. There is another that we used to call Siberian Knotgrass that looks a lot like that but the leaves go brown in the winter. I don`t have time to look things up at the moment though.

Persicaria affinis, syns. Bistorta affinis. Polygonum affine. There are several named varieties.
It is very rarely found naturalised anywhere other than in London.
