| | | Two Questions
Hi
I have a couple of questions about a walk through Trent Park, North London last week.
1 What are these small berries, on small trees (or large bushes);  
2 At first I thought these were fungi, but they seem to be some sort of resin - on a very tall tree with no leaves, so I'm not sure what it was. Any ideas?

Looks like Blackthorn (maybe damsons?) and the second looks like the fungus Daldinia concentrica.

I agree with John, the tree is an Ash and in the vernacular - the fruits are Sloes and the growths on the bark are King Alfred's Cakes!
N.B. the vernacular doesn't mean they are edible but is reference to their appearance to those burnt by a former monarch! | | |
