Hi i've never posted outside the bird forums before but was hoping somebody could help me out. beneath my nijer seed feeders (i also put sunflower hearts in it too)is growing a strange hairy little growth,is this a nijer plant ? |

Any idea what this is ? it never grew before and is directly underneath feeder. |

The tightness of of the seedlings and lack of light means that not only are the stalks tall and weak, but fungal filimants are growing between the stalks.

Looks purely fungal to me - it's mould growing on all the fallen seed underneath (probably combined with bird droppings). I can't see any sign of actual seedlings in there.
PS a quick image search will turn up plenty of Niger plant photos. | | | |
