| | | Hawthorn Health Hello,
I have a mature hawthorn hedge at the front of my house. I allowed it to greow higher from the established height of about 3 feet to a new height of about 6 feet a few years ago, doing it in stages.
In the past two years the foliage at the base up to maybe 18 inches high is very patchy, the bulk of the hedge is still OK.
i am concerned that in raising the height I have weakened it and I do not know what to do. As I said, it is an old hedge and so the plants themselves may be tired.
Can anyhone recommend a food/compost/maure to feed a hedge and if there is any trimming advie. |

| | | Re: Hawthorn Health Hawthorn can be cut back as low as 6 inches from the ground. All trimming should be done during the dormant moths.October to March.A general base fertilizer can be given late spring. In 2 Years the trimmed hawthorn can reach 4 feet again.

Good opportunity to try a bit of 'hedge-laying' perhaps?
