It is my turn to provide the still life for my art club. I have been round the hedgerows gathering suitable material and can name all the fruits from the trees and hedges bar this one...and someone is bound to ask. Your help would be much appreciated. Especially if before 6.30pm  |

The Latin word glutinosa describes the sticky leaves of the Alder. |

Watch out for the 'Erlkönig' - the 'Alder King'. He might not be very happy that you picked some of his twigs!

Alder makes some of the finest charcoal, which in turn makes the best gunpowder. I believe in WW1 all Alders in Britain were officially commandeered by the goverment in case they were needed for those purposes.
