odd poppy?

hi,

been growing some double pink poppies for a few years and this week i notice something different.

on one plant it has the usual pink flower, but the secondary flowers are purple, never had this before, seems rather unusual to me.

i wonder if it is caused by the growing conditions (maybe ph) or just a freaky plant?

Not sure if it's the same in Poppies, but I think Hydrangeas grow different colours depending on the amount of acid in the soil.

It would be interesting to take seed, (if fertile) from the 'blue' flower to see if you get some more similar next year.

yes i was thinking along those lines as i recall hearing hydrangea goes from pink to blue depending on ph of soil,

this one seems odd as both flowers are on the same plant, opening within a few days of each other.

hi dorts, i will keep some seeds from that one to try.

once fully opened the flower turned back to the usual pink.

still odd as all others appear pink from start to finish, just this plant shows purple as it begins to open.

i'll still keep the seeds from this one, as it differs from the rest.
