Railway-lines have always been a great place for flower-hunting; well they were in the old days of steam when quiet little branch-lines were still around, and just after when so many were closed.
Not an advisable pastime today, anyway most lines are regularly weed-killed by sprayers.

Where I live and walk the former railway and colliery lines form a major part of my routes and provide excellent "hunting" grounds. I addition former quarries and coal mines have been returned to nature and usually well managed/maintained. Hetton Lyons Country Park and Rainton Meadows are former colliery areas and make a huge contribution to the natural environment. If anyone cares to look at "Hetton le Hole - Naturally" on Facebook they will see that the locations for virtually all the images are former railway/colliery sites.
