| | | ID : Labiatae species. Morning,
Last Tuesday, I had problems naming what looks to be a Labiatae species at Andrew's Wood in South Devon. It was quite common.
I have uploaded some images of the flowers on them and have some of the whole plant on another camera if neccessary.
I wanted to ask if anyone could help me out with this one. I did think Hedge Woundwort but it did not match any of the flowers in my guides.
Regards,
Andrew. |

| | | Re: ID : Labiatae species. It's Bifid Hemp-nettle, Galeopsis bifida. There's another common species, Common Hemp-nettle (Galeopsis tetrahit), which is similar but has an unnotched lower lip with less extensive dark markings. |

| | | Re: ID : Labiatae species. Thanks ever so much for that. I was using the Collins Flower Guide and did once or twice check the hairs on the stem to see if it was Common Hemp Nettle but they were all green and translucent. I did not notice the insert of the flower heads for Bifid on the page. Are the hairs on Bifid all pale green?
Regards,
Andrew. |
