These images were taken recently at Durham Wildlife Trust's site at Rainton Meadows. The plant was on a created Mag/Lime environment. Could anyone assist with ID please? |

I think this is Jacob's-ladder Polemonium caeruleum. Someone posted a similar plant yesterday.

I would wait for Dorts or one of the others to confirm, looks a bit more violet then blue to me - whether this is the camera or just variability I do not know, I am unfamiliar with this species. Cheers.

John is correct with his ID. Jacob's Lader - Polemonium caeruleum . Almost certainly native at this site.
I believe it is the County Flower of Derbyshire.

Dorts - didn't know that it is our County's flower - but I do know that it grows in Lathkildale and is a sight to behold!! I have some in my garden - beautiful plant and the bees and hoverflies love it!! |

It's a lovely plant and during my years as a garden designer I would always try to include it into planting schemes, particularly along with the white form.

I have the white one as well - but have never seen that growing in the wild - I presumed it was some sort of hybrid and I didn't plant here so I do not know how it arrived. Can you give me some more info about it being the flower of Derbyshire please. I am always in awe of your extensive knowledge of plant life |

It was the result of an initiative by 'Plantlife' who asked via a poll which flower would be most appropriate as your County Flower.
