What is the best way to do them?

| | | Re: Taking cuttings from... you can get ivy to root by burying a section of stem while still attached to the plant, then when well rooted cut off and transplant
Forsythia roots very easily from my experience and there is no need for hormone rooting powder, just put it into moist soil and it will soon show signs that its taken, the same works with buddlia, Though rooting powder can increase the success rate or plant the many thousands of seeds it produces

| | | Re: Taking cuttings from... Ivy is easy.Roots from all parts of stem.Quicker if near leaf joint.Place in pot and will not take long. Can place direct in soil.
Forsythia and Buddlia are done in the same manner.-Cut green pieces 2-3 ins long.Cut under leaf node.Leave 2 leaves on top of stem.Place into pot of compost.Place pot into a plastic bag .Blow up bag, twist and seal with a tie.Place pot in warm light position.Roots will begin to show about a months time.

| | | Re: Taking cuttings from... Truly Buddleja and, especially, Hedera will send out roots if just put in a pot of water! However, in general, cuttings root better if they are put into sandy soil/compost or just sharp sand - you shouldn't have problems with these species though! Putting alid or plastic bag over them is useful to avoid dring up - keeps the atmosphere moist, however, it's always worth checking cutting in plastic bags every few days to ensure that they haven't gone mouldy - some people dose them with Cheshunt compound or other fungicide before covering. |

| | | Re: Taking cuttings from... For taking cuttings from Ivy, use the juvenile shoots (with lobed leaves) rather than the adult shoots (with non-lobed leaves). | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
