| | | Purple Broomrape I found this 2 hours ago on a chalk grass verge. I thought Common Broomrape at first and then maybe Purple Broomrape. The flowers look more like Toothwort but I have only ever seen one without an upright stem. It also has very small Sepals(?) |

your plant is common broomrape. They can get very purple, but here is a picture of yarrow (purple) broomrape that I took last year:
and one of my common broomrapes: (although not as purple as yours!)

Here's a purple'ish Common Broomrape, probably the commonest colour in my experience.
