It looks like a fruiting variety of Blackcurrant rather than one grown for its flowers. If Gooseberries are anything to go by, there could be dozens of old varieties still lurking in the undergrowth.

(Just googled it also.) So it is a 'flowering Currant', can't say I've come across it, is it 'garden worthy' as they say?. Be interesting to hear if anyone else has it in their garden.

The London Wetland Centre planted quite a few bushes in their North America exhibit area, hence my familiarity with it; also subsequently seen it at Kew, but doesn't seem to be a regular garden plant. I thought it was attractive in flower. |

| | | Re: Currant ID please R.oderatum syns. R.aureum & R. tenuiflorum has 'insignificant' (ie for human consumption) black fruit.
The flowers have the scent of cloves.
