| | | Fragrant orchid (?) and what??? Please, can anyone id the white flower.
Photographed today at Low Force in Teesdale. Sorry it is a poor picture - it was fenced in.
There were a number of them in the same patch of meadow. All were flowering from the top of the spike rather that the bottom.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

you're correct with the fragrant orchid although it's hard to tell which species from the photo (others should be able to take a guess!)
the white flower is some sort of Persicaria. Maybe hard without the leaves, but i'd say a bistort

You might well be right about bistort. Not the usual type that grows around here but Alpine bistort seems to fit the bill.
Many thanks

| | | Re: Fragrant orchid (?) and what??? I'd agree with Alpine Bistort, I'm seeing loads of it in flower locally at the moment.

| | | Re: Fragrant orchid (?) and what??? Yes, definitely Alpine Bistort - Persicaria vivipara.
I can't see enough of the Fragrant to be sure, but it looks most likely to be G. conopsea.
Dorts.
