Unidentified purple flower

Any idea what this purple flower is that's sprung up in an untended bed of my garden? Some sort of thistle? Thanks.

It looks like a perennial cornflower..
Here is one from my garden.

Thanks. That's the closest I could find in any of the pictures in my Wild Flowers of Britain and Europe book, but the native distribution was much further south in Europe, so assumed I was wrong.

Yes it looks like the same plant as both names show the same plant in a search.
I got mine from the local garden centre..

Centaurea montana = perennial cornflower or mountain knapweed. Thanks

Global warming is moving many a flower, bird, butterfly and dragonfly further North on the distribution maps. Egrets, Dartford Warblers, Cetti's etc ........................

A friend lent me a book and a good little one it is , and i looked through and see they were very simular.....
in fact i might have to keep an eye out for one they look rather nice

Not this one though, it's a common garden plant.
