Small flowering shrub,for birds nesting?

As some of you know,I have a small area of ground,about 2 foot wide x 3 ft.Maximum.
Are there any low flowering shrubs/bush/plants, that are hardy,which birds might choose for nesting?
Also to provide coverage for mice, and any other creatures?
The area is next to a pond too. Partial shade,in the morning, but in a sun trap for the rest of the day. It doesnt get overly wet in that spot either.

I don't really know of any isolated shrubs or trees that are frequented by nesting birds unless they're quite tall and mature, although Hawthorn seems to be the most popular. If height is a problem may be you could try a conifer. There is a conifer in my garden that is very popular with small birds because the foilage is so dense (it took over 10 years to reach its current size however). Wait to see what others suggest though, i'd hate anyone to take my advice solely.
