| | | Buddlia bush and ponds. Is it safe to plant a buddlia bush near a pond? Is any part of it poisonous?
Are there any other shrubs that would look nice by a pond? |

| | | Re: Buddlia bush and ponds. I have no idea about buddlia.
I have ferns and hostas at the front and the back is Japanese anemone and foxgloves they spread out and give lots of ground cover that the frogs ect love.
I would plant a genera behind your pond its a bit big and needs cover in winter of a mulch of compost but they are beautiful and look great by ponds.
But you might want something more flowery but I would plant lots of green plants with different leaf structures the hostas have a nice flower I have shrubs at the back of my pond too and a golden hop climbing up to hide the fence. |

| | | Re: Buddlia bush and ponds. A buddleia would be attractive, nothing wrong to harm the pond, bees and butterflies love the flowers and they would have water near which they also need.
Another suggestion for the edge is a spirea, Anthony Waterer, pink flowers which doesn't grow very tall. There is one with a variegated leaf as well, same name. Bees love it.
If you want something evergreen there is escallonia, comes in red or pink flowers.

| | | Re: Buddlia bush and ponds. Great! Thanks for the suggestions. I have a few foxgloves in little rockery,to the side of the pond, they seem to seed every where! Ive got some nice white ones,in the front garden, most are pink though
They make me think of my grandparents,as when they died,I pinched these from the garden, when their house went up for sale |

| | | Re: Buddlia bush and ponds. I think a buddleia near a pond would be fine provided the ground isn't permanently damp where it is planted. I tend to associate them with dry, poorer soils, but I suppose they are quite an adaptable species.
