| | | Iris ID, please....
^ Has bloomed rather suddenly.
It's an Iris isn't it? Native to Britain or exotic? It certainly looks wonderfully exotic. Either way, it's staying in my wildlife pond.
How long is it likely to flower for?
Thanks for any replies

| | | Re: Iris ID, please.... You're correct it is an Iris but I don't know which variety. It certainly isn't native.
Individual flowers don't last that long but are a wonderful sight while they are there. A nice surprise for you! |

| | | Re: Iris ID, please.... And what a surprise to me it was! I think I exclaimed "Wow!" out loud . Somehow I missed the bud being there until some colour emerged - I was probably too focussed on my Palmate Newts and how the watercress was doing (now flowering). All my plants were gifted to me by a friend from another pond apart from the watercress from the local fruit 'n veg shop, so I haven't known what I've got.
It's very resilient - There were some extremely heavy and long downpours of rain yesterday. I won't need to top up my pond this week!
Its effect is very striking and I have now noticed buds with a purple tinge on two of the other reeded plants which don't have the striped leaves. It's possible that they will flower while this blue one is still out.
These plants were given to me last June/July when I created the pond and one had already passed its flowering stage so I don't know what colour it was. My friend is a builder and jack-of-all-trades who was clearing ponds for someone else, so he didn't know.
Wildlife ponds are such joy!

| | | Re: Iris ID, please.... The Iris looks like Iris pallida 'Variegata', though it looks like most of it has 'reverted' back to plain green!

Dorts. | ....The plants alongside with plain green leaves haven't flowered yet and are even in a different underwater container. I'll post another pic later to clarify that.
Thanks for the ID - Appreciated

Thanks for the ID - Appreciated | Yes, I've just had another look and notice now that there is another plant beside the 'Pallida' of a different variety.

| | | Re: Iris ID, please.... I've Google'd "Iris Pallida Variegata" and pics show yellow central streaks in the flower whereas mine are white. But also, advice on their growing says not to over water - Mine are permanently rooted in water and the water regularly topped up every week unless done so by rainwater.

So it is more likely to be Iris laevigata 'Variegata'. Try that one.
