| | | Best time of year to visit malham cove Yorkshire Hi was wondering if anyone could give me the headsup on the best time of year to visit malham cove in Yorkshire. Thinking of parking in the village and walking up through the cove and then on up to malham tarn if I have enough time I may also pop to gordale scar to get some photo,s. What would be the best month to do this to maximis my chanses of seeing as many species of orchid and what species should I be able to see. Cheers for any advice in advance RUssell. |

| | | Re: Best time of year to visit malham cove Yorkshire I would say late May/June, although I'm only going on when I know the Orchids are flowering in my area (Derbyshire Dales).
We have Limestone rich Dales here, just as Yorkshire does, so I assume the flowering time would coincide.
I have a friend who lives in Settle who I'm sure would know the best time for Malham, which is a regular haunt of his.
I'll get in touch with him and post back!
Tracey

| | | Re: Best time of year to visit malham cove Yorkshire It's very kind of you to say so, Hobjob. I don't think you can ever stop learning about your own patch and there's always someone who knows something you don't!
I've had the absolute pleasure of working on the west coast of Cumbria today in the finest of weather. It's easy to take it for granted but early this morning was doing a breeding bird survey along an access road to Sellafield. I was reflecting on the hundreds of cars that passed me going to work at the plant and job satisfaction in general. Todays bonus was seeing Brook Lampreys spawning says he wobbling off at a tangent.
I would think Malham in May would be a good bet.. |

| | | Re: Best time of year to visit malham cove Yorkshire I generally try to visit Airedale during the second half of May (workload permitting, which it won't this year!) - partly because of the orchids, but in truth almost any date from now to mid July would repay the botanist. The route you suggest sounds fine, but in truth there is enough in the area - especially if you extend to Ingleborough and Grass Wood to last a week. |
