| | | Willow Seeds Hi
Could someone confirm that these are Willow seeds? It was an amazing sight - about 10 metres square of what looked like a sea of foam. Taken in Coppetts Wood, North London today.

| | | Re: Willow Seeds Hi Brian.
It's not from a Willow, it's from a Poplar, almost certainly the Balsam Poplar - Populus balsamifera.
This 'fluff', which is the seed, gets absolutely everywhere. For some years I lived next to a Balsam Poplar plantation and at this time of year it was amazing just how much was produced.

I would never question you're extensive expertise. especially as i am about to post a load of flowers for id but, could this not be from a goat willow as per picture. I have seen loads of this locally and i was almost certain it came from a willow tree. no poplars in the vacinity as far as i know.
regards tn

| | | Re: Willow Seeds Ah! now you show me the seed head that is producing the fluff.
It's ok tn, I'm only joking. However, it would have made my determination more meaningfull if you had posted that pic, in the first instance.
Yes, many Willows do produce large amounts of 'fluffy' seed, (as yours is), but they cannot be compared to the vast amounts produced by the Balsam Poplar, hence my first thoughts.
Do please post your plant photo's. One thing is for sure with WAB, you will rarely get an incorrect ID, even if it takes a number of differing views to get to it.
All the best.
