Is this white fritillary a separate category or is it a white snakeshead fritillary?

It is a white Snakeshead Fritillary, Fritillaria meleagris.

Lovely find!

I've never seen one and believe they are fairly rare. Is that true?

I've seen them described as rare, though I have never seen one either, but I have never seen a snakeshead fritillary of any kind in the wild. This one was growing on a piece of waste ground which also plays host to a solitary lung wort.

The white ones are rarer than the normal type but do crop up regularly in and around Oxford. There are two big populations I know of and whites are always present in them.
