hi, we inherited a plant, not sure what it is, maybe a rhododendron.
to my suprise it has 2 types of flower, the red petals which are quite abundant, but recently it's sprouted some little white bell type flowers.
can anyone identify the plant?  |

It's a Pieris; also in the Ericaceae.Common garden plant on acid soils. |

Yes, probably Pieris japonica known as 'Forest Flame' in garden centres, good for bees etc in your garden!

The little red leaves are the new shoots, they grow paler and turn green later on. Bumble bees love the white bell-flowers: they last for weeks.

thanks for all the replies,
the striking colour of the new shoots had me fooled into thinking they were flowers. |

yeah, i mentioned those in the original post, i mistakenly thought the new shoots were flowers as well, until Hedera pointed out they're not. | | |
