| | | Seeds for i.d. These were under a pine log and were quite orange when first exposed but then turned light brown. They look like very, very small walnuts. They measure about 6mm. Everyone of them has a hole in one end and I am assuming this is caused by a rodent.
Any ideas? |

I think Jennies suggestion fits. It looks like they have been 'hoarded', most small rodents do this.

How far away from the Blackthorn bushes was the hoard? It would be interesting to know how far the rodent travelled.
Would the sloes have been stashed as fruit or seeds?
I have always wondered how the kernal is extracted as the hole gnawed in the seed or nut is usually smaller than the kernal. |
