| | | Damaged Honeysuckle advice I have just received a Honeysuckle, unfortunately the ties have been tied too tight and have bitten into the plant. This is going to play a big role in my garden so I want to make sure it will recover fully before I decide whether to get a replacement. So, do you thing it will recover fully or will it always be impaired by the scares? Many thanks!
For reference the stems are about 3mm to 4mm thick. |

| | | Re: Damaged Honeysuckle advice I don't know a lot about honeysuckle. However I did buy one very like this a few years ago. It survived, but sprouted mainly from below the damage. Plant it and hope - but get another one and plant it with it for a good show.

| | | Re: Damaged Honeysuckle advice Hi Falesh.
I shouldn't worry too much about the stem damage to your plant as long as it is not at the very bottom of the main stem and there are good signs of life.
From your info it sounds like you have a young Honeysuckle, so plant it as soon as possible. If the damaged stem dies-back, it should very soon shoot from the base and these shoots will be quite vigorous. In fact, I sometimes suggest with such climbers that the main stem is removed once new shoots are evident, in order to encourage this fresh growth, which will form an excelent framework to your plant.
But as I see Hedera has said below, if you can see no signs of life, take it back.

| | | Re: Damaged Honeysuckle advice It doesn't look good to me - result of bad husbandry. Depends on the variety, if the inner layers aren't damaged, but it looks as if necrosis has set in on some shoots. I would ask for refund or replacement, or go to a local nursery and choose a good specimen. If you want quick results you could cut all the leaders down and it will shoot out and make a fuller plant.

| | | Re: Damaged Honeysuckle advice It is a young plant, about 66cm tall. Bushy grown is actually quite desirable for me so would cutting it back below the lowest damaged part, 13cm from the base, result in a healthy plant? |

| | | Re: Damaged Honeysuckle advice Go for replacement. As Damaged you could get refund but then leaves you with no Honeysuckle.

| | | Re: Damaged Honeysuckle advice Providing it grows the cutting back this time of year will be okay.Cover with fleece when frost is expected. But the new option is safest.
