| | | Recording for the next flora of Northamptonshire due out 2012 Dear All,
If any of you drop into or live in Northamptonshire we would appreciate your plant records of species common and rare. The whole county is being re-recorded for the next flora of Northamptonshire due out next year. There are also going to be 4 Northamptonshire Flora Group meetings this year so people can attend these if interested aswell as a BSBI meeting being run by me also in Northamptonshire this year.

I am heading up your way (only up the A1 from Bedfordshire mind!) tomorrow (Sat, 25th June), on a small group outing. We meet at Summer Leys in the morning, and then picnic at Cotton Manor. I then hope to 'go native' and explore some other sites round about. Any ideas for good botany sites? Any significant spots I see I'll get them in to the recorder.

Thankyou for that. We do have some good areas especially in the northern end of the county such as Collywestern Quarry, Barnack Hills and Holes, Wakerley and Fineshade Woods but anywhere is worth recording.
Of course at Northampton there is Bradlaugh Fields, had corn parsley and longleaf at this sites last year during the Biobliz event.

Mel | As you are close to Northampton there is Harlestone Firs, the open rides and open areas have turned up species such as small cudweed, birds foot, water purslane, many which are rare for us here in Northamptonshire due to lack of acidic sites such as acidic grassland. Even ling is rare for us which grows here. There has been a new road system put in by Harlestone Firs which has a good lot of species turning up, that if the whole lot has not been mown off yet of course. Had in one area corn spurrey and prickly poppy here a few months ago. Well worth checking because something else could pop up due to the disturbed soil conditions.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
