| | | Re: Unusual tree If you do a Google images search for tree graft you will see a tree that is very similar. Maybe it's that.

| | | Re: Unusual tree I thought grafted tree, same as Deb, though why someone would plant one outside a garden seems strange? |

| | | Re: Unusual tree I have seen a Rowan sappling about a foot tall growing in the crack of a fence post.
But thats one big tree so I guess by now its roots would of split the lower tree.
A very odd picture well found
Chris.

| | | Re: Unusual tree I wonder if when it was planted it had a metal guard round it to the height of the 'mark', which has since been removed?

| | | Re: Unusual tree It certainly looks like a graft to me. It looks like a sucker of the original (base) wood is growing up at the side too.
Although the site is outside of a garden now I wonder if that was always the case? Could there have been a garden there 40 years ago? |

| | | Re: Unusual tree An ex country worker pal of mine told me why a couple of years ago, when I saw some like this, but I've forgotten, I'll have to ask him again.
My memory sort of says that its just grafted commercially for a viable stock when planted, from bought in stuff, reason? I cant remember...........possible anti virus or quick growth or lends to cropping....................?
It's fairly common, but I'll ask.
Cheers
Ken
