| | | Aloe vera plant help please Hi, i have 2 Aloe Vera plants, one which seems great, but the other one is going brown and limp - I have taken off the brown leaves as my plant friend told me too, have I done the right thing? I have read you shouldn't water too much and its on my window cill in the living room, but is there anything I can I do to help it? I always see plants as animals so always try to help them whenever I can! I would be most grateful for any advice.
Many thanks.

Re-pot it in fresh compost in spring they are resilient so dont worry too much. |

| | | Re: Aloe vera plant help please Take it out of its pot and inspect the roots and soil. Look for grubs, cream with brownish heads of the Vine weevil that can attack house plants by eating the roots off. If you find them wash the roots left, and inspect the core of the plant in case they have got inside it. Aloes will send out new roots from the leaf bases so you might save it. Replant in clean soil and pot.

| | | Re: Aloe vera plant help please Well its hard to know what's going on and the op said they know Aloes dont need lots of water so I ruled over watering out.
I suggest a re-pot and inspect to roots like Hedera said.
They are hard to kill mine got too big so went in the cold greenhouse and the frost got it.
I would not water mine for moths this is why it went limp the leaves do go brown sometimes so I pruned mine out and it was fine the soil goes sour too so a re-pot would sort this. |

| | | Re: Aloe vera plant help please If the outer leaves are going brown and limp then thats normal just gently pull or snip them off.
The OP didnt say if the heart of the plant was what had gone brown and limp if this is the case then that would be rot caused by overwatering, beatle lavae or even being in a draft.
I used to have a large collection of Lithops "Living Stones" all kept the same but even then one would rot off for no good reason
Hope both plants pull through for you
Chris.

| | | Re: Aloe vera plant help please Hiya, it does sound a bit like overwatering, feel your compost, it shouldn't feel damp & as Kayleigh suggests inspect the roots & re pot it. I have one which many times has come close to death due to my overzealousness it did turn brown & limp as well.
I repotted it into a trough like pot (from B&Q, pretty cheap) & covered it with small pea like gravel. It sits above my radiator on the window sill, I hardly water it now & it's gone berserk. Baby Aloe Vera plants anyone?
