| | Shoots in the garden. I noticed today that there are shoots appearing on my Acer, Willow & a few other plants in my garden.
Early I know but great to see!
I hope the snow doesn't come back to ruin it.
Sadly, my Hebe's have gone black from the last lot we had.
Will they recover?

| | | Re: Shoots in the garden. I am afraid that it depends on what type of hebe it is. I have some very hardy ones which still look fine but in previous years I have lost tender ones. It's not impossible that your hebes will regrow if there is enough green wood left. I would leave them until late spring and see if any green shoots appear.
I've seen pussy willow and snowdrops so far this year. The shrubby honeysuckle is blooming well. My christmas roses are very behind and are only in bud. A few winter cyclamen have buds, as does the wallflower bowles mauve (which throws out the odd flower now and again) and there were a few primroses in flower but this has been flowering since last autumn intermitently. |

| | | Re: Shoots in the garden. I can only tell you that the leaves are varigated Susie.
They were only planted in the autumn .
Big though, the size of a basket ball or slightly bigger.

| | | Re: Shoots in the garden. Sounds as if your hebes are 'cooked', but as Susie said leave them and see if they shoot out in spring. I lost all mine last winter, some years old. I noticed shoots on some local magnolia trees today. Hope they don't develop too soon! These frosts have wreaked havoc - saw lots of cordylines flopped and collapsed as well.

| | | Re: Shoots in the garden. I lost 4 out of 6 mature hebes last winter I left them alone until the summer to see if there were any signs of life, and two sprouted new shoots and came back to life. I also lost my lovely 7 year old cordyline and one of my vibernums This winter so far just one of my large broom shrubs completely succumbed under the weight of the heavy prolonged snow we had here, before I had time to shake it free of the heavy snow, but I'm going to wait to see if there's any signs of new growth, although I very much doubt it. |

My potted Rose has got tiny shoots & the Budhleia's are coming on great guns.
My Cordaline has survived.
Not Sure about my Hydrangea yet. It's still black.
Next door's has got huge shoots on it.
I have a very large potted Camelia & that's looking good with big shoots on it.

| | | Re: Shoots in the garden. Looks like I've trashed my Cotoneaster.
It was a new one in the autumn but I never got around to planting it.
It's got watered logged in the pot & most of the leaves have fallen off!

My bay trees are all brown at the ends of leaves hope they make it as the blossom attracts lots of insects including holly blue butterflies. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
