| | | Giant Sloe Berry One for the Gin bottle :-) The blackthorn trees here were full of fat berries like this.
First crop a few weeks ago from some different bushes were tiny so most impressed! V good for north of Scotland. |

This fellah was sitting right at the top of the thorniest blackthorn bush you have ever seen, spotted him a mile off. Took some going to break thru the thorns to get it! |

| | | Re: Giant Sloe Berry Wild Plums, Damsons, Greengages and Bullaces are all names for the very variable group of small trees and shrubs under the name of Prunus domestica, including P. domestica ssp. insititia which produces Damsons and Bullaces and P. domestica ssp. italica which gives us the Greengage.
The whole group is so interbred that it is often impossible for many shrubs to be named. All may have spines and thorns. Fruits from this group may be purple-black, green, red or yellow-green.
The Sloe is the fruit of Prunus spinosa, always a small fruit which is covered in a greyish bloom.
