| | | Assistance with garden plant ID Hi folks,
I hope it's OK to post this request here (I didn't spot a specific gardening forum). My Mum has asked if I can ID the below plant that is currently growing in their garden (near Bodmin Moor, Cornwall)? I'm the first to admit that my knowledge of garden plants is shamefully poor, but I'm hoping someone on here might be able to offer some suggestions. The flower head is approximately 5cm (2 in.) in diameter and it stands just over 30cm (12 in.) off the ground.
Many thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Marc. |

Cheers,
Marc. | Dierama igneum is not a common garden plant, by far the more common is Dierama pulcherrimum (Angel's fishing rod), pictured below, which is very similar in form but a different colour than D. igneum. Your plant is far more upright than a Dierama, it doesn't have those typical 'hanging' flowers.. Dierama pulcherrimum.
I'm inclined to agree with Brocakat and Jennie that it is probably a Schizostylis cultivar or something very closely related.

| | | Re: Assistance with garden plant ID Definitely a schizostylis with the long style. There are so many of these cultivars, from white to nearly purple.

| | | Re: Assistance with garden plant ID If its flowering now it will probably be Schizostylis sp as they do flower very late sometimes beyond Christmas.
