I think it could be a Japanese Quince.

Or if it's the fruit of your labours - a two pound coin.

I agree, almost certainly Japanese Quince - Chaenomeles japonica.
A small/medium shrub grown for its attractive red-orange flowers.
Dorts.

Keep a ripe one in your pocket and get it out from time to time. They have the most wonderful spicy aromatic smell!
