Unknown plant
This was growing in clumps in what looked like marshy ground. It was just over 5 feet tall.The ground was uncultivated. Any ideas please?

could it be Miscanthus sinensis which is being grown in parts of the country as a potential bio-fuel?

Also a very common garden plant in innumerable cultivars. I know it can be an invasive pest in some warmer parts of the world.
