ID: Jasmine Scented Wetland Flower

[Dads Question]

Hi, Dad found what he thinks is a rare wild flower. He found one last year in a wet field and now this one y'day on a mountain (N Ireland). It has a stem approx 1.5 metre and a cluster of small white flowers with approx 3" fern like leaves. It has a really strong fragrant smell of what dad describes jasmine like.. We have searched all morning in wild flower books and on line and cannot see anything that matches.. Please help!

It sounds like one of the umbellifers, many are tall, sweet scented and have fern-like leaves, or perhaps a valerian, but without a photograph it is almost impossible to say what it may be.
Would it be possible for you to post a photo on here so we can offer more help
with your plant?

Might be Common Valerian...or the white flowered version of Red Valerian

Sounds like an umbellifer....cow parsley? although leaves too small and not sure about jasmine scent. Too tall and wrong site for valerian IMO.
Picture of leaf, flower would clinch it.

It is Common Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)

Why is it the wrong site for Common Valerian? The habitat sounds perfect for it!
