| | | Grasses for identification   
Can anyone identify these grasses? They are from a saltmarsh at Eling, Southampton. I think one iseither common reed or common cord grass as there are huge stands of it.

| | | Re: Grasses for identification Very difficult to do some grasses from a photo but the first one could well be either Small Cord-grass or Smooth Cord-grass - They are both now rare and are only found in salt marshes around Southampton!
I wouldn't like to say what the branched one is. Common Cord-grass is much stouter, does branch but not as much as the grass shown.
