| | | is this Portland Spurge ? Evening all,
The local flora says Portland Spurge grows in the area where these pics were taken on the IoW and I'm wondering if this is it...
Thanks for looking,
Rob

It most certainly is Portland Spurge - Euphorbia portlandica ,
Stems tinged red, minutely pointed leaves, prominant midrib on backs of leaves and pale yellow/green bracts. All diagnostic and easy to see in you pics.
Nice find.

Dorts. | agreed. It's a fairly unusual find, even on the south coast, so good one! I found my first in Purbeck the other day

| | | Re: is this Portland Spurge ? Just a footnote on Portland Spurge.
Although not common anywhere, I can be found from the Isle of Wight along the South and West coast as far as Fishguard in West Wales, and also around most of the Irish coast.

| | | Re: is this Portland Spurge ? Thank you Dorts, Leifus,
I'd cottoned onto the red stems but hadn't registered the other features.
I guess this is growing close to the eastern limit of its distribution, grid ref about 633854,
all the best,
Rob
