- found on sandy soil in Purbeck
- no fruits
- glabrous stem
- hairy petioles (leaf stalks for those who aren't sure) and leaves
- reflexed sepals
- flowers 1cm or less in diameter

I'm pretty sure it is Hairy Buttercup. Ranunculus sardous.
I'ts one I know well from a few inland sites in Hampshire, but it is much more common near the coast, although not so common on the Purbecks .
The only other candidate is the much more common Bulbous Buttercup, R. bulbosus. Common on dry grassland. Both have down-turned sepals, but in Bulbous B. the petals tend to overlap.
If I'm right, it's a good find.

I thought a Buttercup was a Buttercup and that was it! Now you have me interested in these little and not so little flowers that are all over our grass. How many different kinds are there? Go on shock me. This I must follow up ...... next week. |

(St Martin's)
(Jersey)
Goldilocks*
the ones with the * by them are the ones you could find in Inverness
