| | | Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? If not I shall have to wait for a rainy day and construct one myself!
thanks

| | | Re: Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? You could be firing at a shadowy and fast moving target. How are you defining "British" and "arable"? Would you include historic records of plants grown as crops? There is a whole load of defining to be done first, which suggests to me that they are not a truly discrete group of plants. Love to hear any thoughts on this.

| | | Re: Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? Did a search on this subject. It does diversify from farm plants to scarce plants. The lists seem to have same plants but lead you to purchase all the different books. Some of the downloads are good for recognition. |

| | | Re: Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? hi Liefus. Firstly are you looking for crops that are grown in Britian, or wildflowers that are habitually found in or arond ploughed fields?
If it is crops, then they would not simply be British, unless you meant strains of wheat or whatever that have been developed and named in Britain. But you could get a book simply on wheat or on potatoes. It is a vast subject, and has to be subdivided. Moreover calling it British has no meaning since crops are the same throughout the world. The only divisions here are tropical subtropical or equable.
Wildflowers that favour ploughed fields are however an interesting study. |

| | | Re: Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? If you are looking for wild flowers that are associated with arable crops, I have to reccomend Home: Arable Plants - a field guide. I bought the book, but the on-line guide is brilliant. Well worth a bit of time to investigate the full capabilities of this.

| | | Re: Does anyone have a list of all the British Arable Plants? The book concentrates on:
'the group of plants showing the steepest decline of the British flora over the last 25 years...'
Its a good book and well worth the money. It includes information on some of our arable grass spp. and gives general info on the history of arable cropping from Neolithic times to present day. |
