Hi there, does anyone know what this plant is that's appeared in my back garden this year?

Firstly, the flower spike itself (probably a good 30-40cm in height):

Looks like Viper's-Bugloss Echium vulgare

What you have is Viper's Bugloss Echium vulgare.
Lovely plant and quite welcome in any garden.
