Hi Ray,
These aren't wild orchids, they are Ragged Robin - Lychnis flos-cuculi.
I know very well that feeling when you start out with wild flower photography, and believe me, even after doing it for several years, there are still many occasions when I don't know the plant that I'm photographing. 
I recommend that you get a copy of "Complete British Wild Flowers" by Paul Sterry. Collins publishers.
They usually have them in at "The Works" in Blackburn, for £4.99.
(Bought via normal booksellers they are upwards of £10.00-12.00).
It's a great just about pocket sized book for the beginner, crammed full of good quality photos, and will certainly help in your quest for ID's.
