| | | Re: Orchids Tyne and wear? Hi Russell and welcome to WAB.
You could try Plessey Woods. Head for the hay meadow (sign posted ) No idea of the species but there was a good showing last year.
The wagon way along the railway from the Stevenson Railway Museum, heading towards Percy Main was also good last year. Again not too sure of the species.
Good luck.

| | | Re: Orchids Tyne and wear? You've got some rarities up there. There's the variety of Dune Helleborine, the Tyne Helleborine.

| | | Re: Orchids Tyne and wear? If you can get granted access into Gosforth Park there's also the very rare Coralroot orchid which has only started appearing there in the last few years.

| | | Re: Orchids Tyne and wear? There is a good crop at the moment in Havannah NR (East end of Newcastle airport runway) between main pond and the wood.
Also around the most westerley pond at Woolsington Ponds. If you don't know them you have to park in the dual carraige northbound layby just south of the airport. Walk thro gap in hedge turn right followtrack past to first pond then follow path over to the right. Check above on google maps. |
