| | | A not so ragged Ragged Robin This Ragged Robin photographed on marshes near Sandown, IoW a couple of days ago struck me as slightly odd. The petals just don't look as ragged as in the books and most images I've seen for this species.
Petals on this plant are divided with just two lobes each, with only a suggestion of a third lobe here and there, whereas four lobes per petal is the norm I think.
Has anyone else noticed this, I wonder, and is it a commonly variable feature?
Thanks for your interest,
Rob

I'm not sure how varied they can get, but the one in your pic seem to the norm on one field i frequent. Also this type is also doing well on same patch. |

| | | Re: A not so ragged Ragged Robin Amazing flowers Chris - I'd like to find one like that!
Not sure I have seen such variability in the blooms of other commonly ocurring members of the campion family.
Some odd genetic goings-on going on here, perhaps..
all the best,
Rob
